Release Notes

With Microsoft Office Project Server 2003, master projects were a simple topic. The whole discussion boiled down to “Don’t use them!”.

It’s a whole new world with Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 and lately I have been working on a deployment where master projects make a lot of sense. In this case the client organization requires that projects be managed within the division where the resources are located. This is really driven more by where the technical expertise resides than anything else. When a larger project surfaces that spans several divisions, a master project along with several subprojects is the way to go.

As a byproduct of this effort I decided that the Project Reportcard could be improved with respect to external project dependencies, master projects, subprojects and inserted projects. The version 2.0 release is intended to address these needs.

I also realized that the process that I use to develop templates for use with Project Reportcard may not be intuitive and needed documentation. The Project Reportcard documentation now includes a substantial addendum that addresses this topic.

The evaluation kit download includes the installation, sample and documentation downloads.

The source code is provided as a Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 solution.
