Release Notes

I recently worked on a project server deployment effort and noticed that all of the client's KPIs were being manually set by the project manager. Closer analysis of their portfolio demonstrated that most of the project plans in their portfolio were not being maintained. While they are still in a start up mode, this raised a number of red flags from my perspective. For example, how valid is a portfolio dashboard if you don't know which projects have a current status date? If a project still shows incomplete work in the past, or completed work in the future, is the reported project status valid? I would tend to answer no...

If you are managing the project management office or even just the project server, how are you going to respond when your manager or their manager asks "Why"? And trust me, the questions get harder...

It occurred to me that if the Project Reportcard stored a zero result in the Reportcard Grade field on the project server, this could be used indicate or deprecate the validity of more subjective project status indicators.

In the v1.4 Project Reportcard release I have changed the Should Have Started, Should Have Finished, Future Actual Starts and Future Actual Finishes KPIs to report Pass/Fail. If any of these indicators fail, or if the project status date is more than 4 weeks (28 days) old, the Report Grade field value is set to zero and the Total text box on the Reportcarf form is set to "Invalid".

The evaluation kit download includes the installation, sample and documentation downloads.

The source code is provided as a Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 solution.
